Today, Wednesday, March 5, Jayanta Bhattacharya, PhD, MD, will be testifying in front of the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committees to secure their vote to confirm him for Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
These hearings are expected to be very contentious due to the administration’s executive orders to reduce funding for NIH grantees, especially those at large academic institutions. Additionally, due to the measles outbreak, the members are concerned about the actions the administration is taking to end the outbreak.
The Academy will monitor the hearing to learn about Dr. Bhattacharya’s vision for the NIH and hear the senators’ questions for Dr. Bhattacharya.
