What is your background in audiology?
I am an assistant professor in the doctor of audiology program at Cal State, Los Angeles, within the Department of Communication Disorders. I completed my AuD/PhD at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln (UNL) in 2018. During my time at UNL, I was fortunate to receive outstanding mentorship from Sherri Jones, PhD, and Julie Honaker, PhD, who helped cultivate my interest in vestibular assessment.
Why do you volunteer with the Academy?
I’ve had incredible mentors and learned so much from others who have volunteered their time. Volunteering is an opportunity for me to pay it forward and help shape the future of our profession.
What is one thing that you can say volunteering has done for you and your personal success as an audiologist?
I have met some wonderful colleagues and collaborators volunteering with the Academy. Hearing different perspectives and tackling shared challenges has made me a better educator, clinician, and mentor.
What is one thing on your bucket list you want to check off this year?
To add another stamp to my passport! I’m hoping to travel to a new country with my family.
If you could interview one person in your field, who would it be?
I would have to go back in time and talk to Robert Bárány. I’d love to hear firsthand how his curiosity and innovation shaped the way we assess the vestibular system.
