Let Me Hear From You
By Kris English, PhD
You may be wondering why someone else is writing Pat Feeney’s message! While we’ve all been focusing on work, family, and friends, the calendar flipped to July 1, which marks the first day of my term as president of your Academy. As have all previous presidents, I will work diligently to represent audiology strongly in all arenas, and make every effort to earn your trust. And I will gratefully lean on Pat as our immediate past president, as well as the other 10 valuable colleagues you have elected to the Board of Directors.
So, what’s new this year for audiology? “Watch this space” for timely news, but for the moment, I am looking ahead almost 10 months to AudiologyNOW! 2010. A couple weeks ago, I attended the program planning meeting in our convention city, San Diego, and will not hesitate to admit I had no idea how far in advance this planning takes place! In some respects, the planning reminds me of a well-oiled machine, thanks to our experienced staff. At the same time, we are also creating something that has never existed before, to address changes in science, audiology, the health-care environment, and the Academy itself. I’ve always loved our convention, but this year, I am especially excited about it and hope to infect you with the same enthusiasm.
In upcoming months, you will be hearing much about all that AudiologyNOW! can offer you, but I am mentioning it now because, in this economy, people need even more time to plan and budget. You will hear measurables such as the number of CEUs you can earn, and the number of exhibitors you can approach—but there will also be that “priceless” component that we’ve heard described as “community.” The program’s supertracks might suggest we are divided by specialties and populations served, but in fact the opposite is true: AudiologyNOW! helps us pull together, find our common voice, and cheer each other on.
To help the planning process, please complete the following one-question survey: Do you expect to attend AudiologyNOW! in 2010, April 14-17, in San Diego, CA?
I hope to see you there! In the meantime, is there anything else you’d like to talk about? E-mail me
