Academy A4 Partner ACAE Receives CHEA Recognition

May 08, 2012 Academy News

The Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) received recognition from the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) on May 1, 2012. The CHEA Board of Directors voted to recognize ACAE as an accrediting body for doctoral programs in Audiology. A national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation, CHEA is an association of 3,000 degree-granting colleges and universities and recognizes 60 institutional and programmatic accrediting organizations.

ACAE is an independent, non-profit accreditation body created in 2003 to accredit professional doctoral programs in audiology (AuD degree). ACAE has designed a unique accreditation program that is exemplary in promoting higher standards through a rigorous system of Web-based self-study. The mission of ACAE is to assure the public that only those programs that have complied with this agency's standards and that graduate competent audiologists trained at the AuD level will be accredited. The purpose of ACAE accreditation is to recognize, reinforce, and promote high-quality performance in AuD educational programs through a rigorous verification process. This process will produce evidence that AuD programs have prepared graduates who are qualified to be doctoral-level audiologists. It also will assure communities of interest that graduates will be able to function according to the national scope of practice, as defined by the professional organization.

ACAE currently has accredited four programs and four additional programs are in the pipeline at this time. For more information, visit the ACAE Web site.
