Celebrate World Hearing Day with the Academy!
World Hearing Day is designated at the First International Conference on Prevention and Rehabilitation of Hearing Impairment in Beijing, China. Celebrated each year on March 3, the day aims to raise awareness and promote ear and hearing care across the world.
The theme for World Hearing Day 2017, “Action for hearing loss: make a sound investment,” draws attention to the economic impact of hearing loss. Unaddressed hearing loss poses a high cost for the economy globally and has a significant impact on the lives of those affected. Interventions to address hearing loss are available and are cost-effective.
Prevention, screening for early identification, rehabilitation through hearing devices, captioning and sign language education are among the strategies that can mitigate hearing loss and its consequences. World Hearing Day 2017 highlights actions which can be undertaken by decision-makers to address hearing loss.
Join your colleagues for a virtual advocacy day on March 3 to raise awareness for World Hearing Day! The Academy encourages you to contact your congressional representatives with a shared message to promote this important initiative.
At the same time, a group of students from the Ohio State University (OSU) and the Northeast Ohio AuD Consortium (NOAC) will be in Washington, DC, to make visits on Capitol Hill to promote World Hearing Day. They will meet with lawmakers to draw greater attention to the economic impact of hearing loss, the theme of this year’s World Hearing Day. We urge you to stand with your fellow audiologists by participating in this virtual advocacy day and joining the global movement to address hearing loss!
