Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California
The Hearing and Speech Center of Northern California (HSCNC), located in San Francisco, CA, has placed the Web button for National Protect Your Hearing Month on their home page at www.hearingspeech.org. The section on the home page also features facts from the hearing loss press release, with a link to read the full press release.
Audiologists at HSCNC designed pocket-sized cards with information about hearing loss prevention and musician’s earplugs. E-A-R yellow “neon blast!” foam earplugs were attached. The cards featured a noise-level thermometer and encouraged the reader to learn more about proper hearing protection.
The cards and earplugs were distributed throughout the month of October at the center’s front desk for patients and clients to take all throughout the month. In addition to solidifying awareness to patients visiting the center, the audiologists also went out into the community to spread awareness as well.
On October 10, 2008, from 10 pm till 12 am, audiologists from the HSCNC were on hand to pass out the ear plugs and information cards at a popular club in San Francisco, the ANU Bar. The club featured a two-hour DJ set that evening, and the audiologists passed out over 259 pairs of earplugs to club goers and bar tenders, who took the hearing protection with enthusiasm.
On Saturday October 11, 2008, the audiologists from the HSCNC were on-site at the 2008 San Francisco Fleet Week to pass out another 200 pairs of ear plugs and information cards to children and adults. Hearing protection was most necessary at this event, where the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angles deputed daily aerial displays.
